Vienna Boy Choir


The Vienna Boys' Choir (German: Wiener Sngerknaben) is one of the most well known boys' choir in the world, and as the name already tells, based in Vienna.

The members are usually from Austria, but also boys from abroad have a chance to join.

The choir is a boys' choir, sopranos and altos only, not tenors or basses, and well known for its exceedingly high vocal standard. The choir has worked with musicians like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Caldara, Antonio Salieri, Heinrich Isaac, Paul Hofhaimer, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Johann Joseph Fux, Christoph Willibald Gluck, and Anton Bruckner.

The Vienna Boys Choir is the modern-day descendant of the boys' choirs of the Viennese Court, which its history go back to the late Middle Ages. The choir was established on the 7th July 1498. The first director of the ensemble was a Slovene: Jurij Slatkonja.
